How or when did you learn about other faiths?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 26, 2009:
How- from going to the International Headquarters at Adyar, of the Theosophical Society. There are places of worship from different religions; but what is really amazing, is that they are all inclusive and not exactly what you find elsewhere [I THINK!]
So- there are three shrines - the Bharat Samaj temple, with no deities but a sense of space. It is the temple where my parents were married.
There is an 'All Saints Church' where my parents attended Midnight mass on the eve before their marriage on Christmas Day.
There is a Buddhist shrine where we played as children. I seem to remember an old bell there.
We were taught that there was truth in all religions and sciences, and that to seek it is the way to truth. That there is no religion higher than truth. I was perhaps five years old? Not sure really. All I know is, that we grew up knowing there are many faiths; and even more, that we each have our own individual path to tread.
Even if it is at the point where the Adyar river meet the Indian Ocean for a sacred sunrise.

Thank you Meenakshi. Thank you again.
Thank YOU for your presence here, dear Laurie.
You grew up Meena, in the ultimate experience of what is here transcending all belief systems and yet connecting them all. You grew up in wisdom! Your beautiful mother, your father, and your husband with his penetrating eyes and your spirit are infused by truth. Blessed you are!
I bow deeply to all your family!
Blessed Am I to know you!

You are lucky Meenakshi to have learned as a child what takes some people years and even a life time to figure out.
Thank you Zennie and Sky High, for your warm words. Yes, you are so right, that I am incredibly blessed not to have to remove conditioning from my psyche as I moved onward.
Since India became free [from British rule in 1947] it was a secular state. One of our Prime Ministers reminded us that being secular does not mean being non-religious or not knowing about religion. My friends know of my interest in the knowledge that religious places have been keeping and passing on and so I've attended ceremonies and talks by Jewish, Catholic, Jain, Buddhist, and of HIndu scholars. There is much to divide on the surface; and sometimes the necessity of showing that one is superior to others, but at heart, I still find those truths. That's why I've been so happy when the One Light Many Windows group started on Gaia.
Very cool. thank for telling me about that group. I have just joined it. :-)
so lovely, beautiful Mata. So joyous to find the shrine of One light and you at my side
Sky High, super! Dearest HummingBird, thank you for bringing that sweetness into this space. I must ask my father about that bell, it was from an ancient space and he will remember something about it. Looking back I realize that when a place has sacred energy; it does not need to be surrounded by rules or rituals, just being there, among the coconut trees, within sight of river and sound of ocean was like seeing all of the glory of one light. It is now in my heart and I am deeply moved that there is an online place where it could be shared.
As Swamiji says, Thank YOu Gaia. To which I add, thank you dearest Eli, for bringing the freshness of the mountains here, which helped such wonderful energies to begin to flow.
oh how could I not return at the mention of Beloved Guruji
…only to find I never left…
love Mata
